Nurses & Other Health Care Professionals
Practice Nurses
Three Practice Nurses, with Catherine Campbell heading up the team as Nurse Manager, support the GP’s clinically. The Nurses are trained to see patients with a wide range of acute and chronic problems offering advice and treatment where appropriate, sometimes with additional help and advice from the GPs. Individual Practice Nurses have expertise in managing chronic diseases, such as heart disease, asthma, diabetes, COPD, women’s health and family planning. We also offer travel advice and vaccinations. Some of our Nurses administer childhood immunisation clinics twice weekly for the under 5’s.

Duty Nurses
Our Duty Nurses, Ruth and Debbie are experienced and trained in minor illness. The Duty Nurse will handle all requests for same day appointments, where she will assess the degree of urgency of your problem, advise you which member of our team is best placed to see you and decide how much time to allocate to your appointment. This will enable you to gain maximum benefit from your visit.

Health Care Assistants
Spa has threeHealth Care Assistants, Sarah and Debbie who are specifically trained in phlebotomy (blood tests), blood pressure checks and ECGs, and Beki who is currently in training. They also assist our Practice Nurses. Our HCA’s also carry out routine administrative tasks and assist in theatre.
Health Visitors
Our Health Visitors are qualified Nurses, with special training and experience in child health, health promotion and education. They offer practical support and health advice in many situations, including child development, nutrition, sleep issues and behaviour management in the under 5’s. They can be contacted directly on 01225 898002.
Community Midwives
Our Midwife co-ordinates care during pregnancy. We do ask that you make an appointment with one of the Doctors to confirm your pregnancy. Our Midwife will be delighted to give you advice prior to you becoming pregnant and offers appointments for this purpose, every Thursday afternoon at the Medical Centre. She will organise your individual care during antenatal delivery and post-natal period and will refer you to the hospital-based obstetrics service if necessary.
