Update on measles outbreak declared on Merseyside

A measles outbreak has been declared on Merseyside. There are 13 confirmed and 16 suspected cases ranging in age from nine months to adults aged in their 20s. Six people, four children and two adults, required treatment in hospital. This compares to just one confirmed case on Merseyside in the first six weeks of 2011 and one in the corresponding period of 2010.

Update on Legionnaires’ Cluster Associated with a Hotel in Spain

10 February 2012, 1400hrs. The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has this week been alerted by the Spanish public health authorities about a further case of Legionnaires’ Disease in a UK resident who stayed at the Diamante Beach Hotel in Calpe, Costa Blanca, as well as two French cases. This brings the total number of UK residents associated with this cluster to 12, with three deaths.

The Medical Centre is open from 8.00 until 18:30 Monday to Friday.

The appointment telephone line (01225 709311) is kept open all day but is turned over to a telephone message giving details of how to contact the emergency doctor between 13:00 and 14:00.

Our general enquiry line (01225 703236) is open all day. This number also turns over to a telephone message between 13:00 and 14:00.

Spa Medical Centre now provides extended GP opening times. We are open from 07:30 on Wednesday mornings and until 19:30 on Thursday evenings. Please note these days/times are subject to change.

Gompels Spa Pharmacy Opening Times

Pharmacy is open from 9:00 to 18:30, Monday to Friday, closing between 13:00 and 14:00 for lunch.

When We Are Closed

The Out Of Hours Emergency Doctor Service is the responsibility of Wiltshire Primary Care Trust. This is currently run by Wiltshire Medical Services. If you require urgent attention outside normal surgery hours please telephone 0300 111 5717. This service is available between 18:30 and 08:00, Mondays to Fridays and all day Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays.

You may have to visit the Primary Care Emergency Centre, or a Doctor may visit you if you are too ill or infirm to attend the Centre.

NHS Direct

In the case of urgent need when the practice is closed you can call NHS Direct (0845 4647) to speak to a triage nurse. Your needs will be assessed and advice offered or arrangements made for you to see a doctor.

Please do not ask to see a doctor out of hours unless you genuinely cannot wait until the surgery re-opens.

Call 999 in an emergency. Chest pains and / or shortness of breath constitute an emergency.

This timetable shows the usual availability of the doctors in the practice. Please remember that Drs Gabriel, Matthews, Rigby and Armstrong are involved in the surgical services provided at Spa Medical Centre. So, although they may be present in the surgery, they may be operating in theatre. This timetable may change occasionally to allow for annual leave, sickness etc.
