Practice History
The Spa Medical Centre, formerly known as Spa Surgery in Spa Road, was opened in February 2001 after years of discussions and negotiations with the local health authority, Primary Care Trust and other government bodies.

The aim was to have a purpose built health centre to include social services staff, district nurses, health visitors, speech therapists, counsellors and pharmacy in addition to the services provided by the GP’s and Practice Nurses. The building is bright and airy and very receptive to patients needs, it allows us to provide better health care for patients in Melksham. Since the move, Spa Medical Centre’s list continues to grow, with a current list of 9500 registered patients.
Our GPs
We have 6 GP partners who form the Spa Medical Centre partnership. Dr Jeremy Simmons, Dr Rupert Gabriel, Dr Rob Matthews, Dr David Thomas, Dr Claire Rigby & Dr Fiona Armstrong.
Our Practice Logo
The logo, designed by John Stevens of Superior Creative Services of Melksham, was adapted from a Saxon symbol for health and well being. We thought this was particularly suitable considering the fact that Melksham was probably originally settled by the west Saxons, and indeed, acquired its name form the old English. Meolcham – meloc is the old English for milk, and Ham, settled community, indicating that it was originally a dairy farm settlement.
Very obviously, the connection with “health and well-being” we thought to be entirely appropriate because we feel that the centre is here to promote just that for its patients.
